They made a mountain out of a mole hill there. Personally, I felt it was a cry for attention in the most disingenuous way. Uncomfortable and kind of a bummer.

Why was it so wrong for the contestant to take his shirt off in last night's episode?

AAaand bookmarked. I'm so glad to have found this blog... Got here through a so you think you can dance link, but I'm thrilled to read intelligent commentary on some seemingly vapid shit. I find this season of MTB fascinating... Especially how the dynamics have flipped now that it's an all male deal. What's up with Laurie Ann suddenly feeling the need to dress like a pussycat doll and bust out some dominatrix shit? Troublesome indeed.

Any thoughts on the A-to-B flipping of sex role in this episode? I'm thinking of Michael, who fulfills a pretty standard feminine story. He cooks for his family, eats more than he 'should,' gets called out, and is banished to the exercise machine for his sin. Any thoughts on this, or on the homosocial aspect? We're used to seeing girls turn catty in these kinds of shows, but what's going to happen to the dudes? Will we see them form intimate friendships, I wonder? Great analysis, thanks!
